Artist's Comments

My first submission using my Sigma 105mm f2.8 macro lens. I like the lens, but I have to get used to using a prime lens again. lol **Hey, why doesn't this thing have a focus ring!?**

This is some sort of poppy we planted the other day. It's a huge crepe-like flower. Too bad I had to cut it. :(

What an awesome macro image! This shot works for me on several levels. First of all, it's a macro, which is my preferred medium of expression. In this one you've managed to capture the delicate inner world of a flower in such a way that we're drawn into the image and given the opportunity to absorb it in an almost holistic way. We feel we can touch this flower, smell it's scent or have to shoo away the bee that will surely be landing there shortly. I especially love the way you "framed" the center of the flower with the other parts of the stamen...they give the image both a place to root and movement simultaneously. Balance, symmetry, color, movement, macro...all the elements that to me conspire to create a compelling image. Well done, JR!
